Running a small business is tough. There are so many you need to keep track of as an SMB owner that you often feel overwhelmed. Luckily, over the years, more and more SMB software has found its way to users and you can now take your pick. Of course, since you run a small office, you will most likely be very limited with your budget. Well, today, we have x pieces of totally free software that you can use to keep your business running.
Google Docs
Every small business will need an office suite. Some companies will be doing the majority of their work in the different pieces of software that come in these suites, while others will use them mostly for paperwork and support, so to say. In any case, you need a good office suite solution and Google Docs is at the moment your best choice. It is fast, it is entirely in the cloud meaning that you can work from everywhere and it is free. In fact, once you start thinking about it, Google Docs is simply an incredible piece of software, even if it weren’t free.
Thunderbird
Thunderbird has been around for quite a while and it is reining the world of email clients pretty much unopposed. Sure, Microsoft and Google are trying to get a piece of the market and they might succeed, but anyone who knows a thing or two about emails knows that Thunderbird is the way to go. It allows you to synch and link up accounts from any email service and it also comes with a whole range of advanced features that small businesses need to keep their email accounts in order. Thunderbird does get much more elaborate and powerful if you purchase a license, but even a free version will do a ton for small business owners.
Slack
Do not get us wrong, Skype is a great piece of software and it can work really well for a small business. However, Slack has its advantages that make it a superior solution, at least in our mind. For one, it is integrated with Google office suite which we already recommended and using these two together is truly a great experience. Also, it is much more than just a communication tool and it can even be considered a management toll light, if you want. Also, let’s not pretend like we don’t know it – Skype has too many quirks and issues.
TurboCASH
There is definitely no shortage of great free accounting software, but when you are looking for a solution to cater to the needs of a small business, there is no better choice than TurboCash. It has been around since the 1980s and it has grown into the most comprehensive solution for small business owners who wish to do at least some of their accounting on their own. Of course, there will come a time when you will need to hire professional accounting services, but until that time comes, TurboCash will be able to help you with the most of it.
